How to Build a Hammer in Travian: Legends

A 'hammer' is a large offensive army built in a single village, saved up over weeks or months to smash a target in one decisive attack. Building one is the core mid- and late-game project for any attacker. Here's how to do it without starving your account or losing the army to a bad hit.

Pick the right tribe and unit

Offence lives in a tribe's strongest attacker. Teutons build the cheapest hammers around the Axeman and Teutonic Knight; Romans field the elite Equites Caesaris; Gauls and the newer tribes each have a signature striker.

Whatever the tribe, a hammer is mostly ONE offensive unit plus rams and catapults to break the wall and destroy buildings. Don't dilute it with defensive units — they add crop upkeep without adding offence.

  • Teutons: Axeman + Teutonic Knight — cheapest offence, best plunder.
  • Romans: Imperian + Equites Caesaris — expensive but very strong.
  • Add rams to flatten the wall and catapults to wreck targets.

Feed it — crop is the real limit

Every troop eats crop per hour. A hammer's size is capped by your crop production, not your resource fields for wood/clay/iron. Build a cropper (a 15-crop village) or push grain fields and the granary hard before the army gets big.

Watch your net crop constantly. If it goes negative your troops starve and die — the fastest way to lose weeks of work.

Time the strike

A hammer is only worth it if it lands where it matters: a wall-and-building smash on an enemy capital, or a coordinated operation with your alliance. Use travel-time math so your army arrives in the exact second the operation calls for.

Before you commit, simulate the hit against the defence you expect. A hammer thrown into a full anvil evaporates — know the number you need to beat.
